Priority Services Register (PSR)

Free extra support if your gas or electricity ever goes off

The Priority Services Register is a free service that gives you extra help if there’s a power cut or a problem with your gas supply.

It also lets your energy companies know if anyone in your home might need extra support, like a health condition, mobility difficulty or communication needs.

This means they can keep you updated and make sure you get the help you need more quickly.

How It Can Help

Emergency power or water: if you rely on medical equipment or aids, help can be prioritised during an outage

Emergency heating or cooking: if your gas supply is off for a while, you may receive electric heaters or cooking appliances

Accessible communication: you can choose to get information in Large Print, Braille, audio, textphone or another language

Peace of mind: you can set up a password so you always know when a genuine engineer is at your door

Who can register?

Anyone who might need a bit of extra help. For example:

  • People with a health condition or disability
  • Families with young children
  • Older residents
  • Anyone who finds it easier to get information in a different format
  • If your situation isn’t listed exactly, don’t worry. Just pick the option that fits best when you register.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is completely normal to have a few questions before signing up. Here are some of the ones we are often asked and the simple answers that might help.

Do I need to reapply every year?

No. Once you are registered, you will stay on the PSR unless you decide to come off it.

Yes. Turning it down by just one degree can lower your heating costs over the year without making your home feel cold.

They do. LED bulbs use much less electricity and can last up to ten times longer than old-style bulbs.

Heating and hot water use the most, followed by kitchen appliances such as ovens, kettles and washing machines.

No. It costs less to heat your home only when you need it. Using a timer or thermostat is the best way to keep your home warm and save energy.
